Kuo: Five New iPhones Expected In 2020, Lightning-Free Model In 2021

Kuo: Five New iPhones Expected In 2020, Lightning-Free Model In 2021 Today, frequently-being-noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released his latest research report, making predictions on the new iPhone product range in 2020 and 2021.

To begin, the report states that benefiting from 5G, new designs and better product portfolios, the iPhone’s YoY growth in 2020 and 2021 is expected to increase by about 6% and 8% with shipments anywhere from 205 to 210 million and 22 million to 25 million, respectively,

Kuo believes that an iPhone SE 2 with a 4.7-inch LCD display will be launched in the first half of 2020, accompanied by a higher-end all-OLED lineup consisting of 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models in the second half of the year, in total, Apple plans to launch five iPhones in the year 2020.

Furthermore, Kuo expects the 5.4-inch and lower-end 6.1-inch model to feature a dual-camera setup, in contrast, the higher-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch would include a triple-lens camera system as well as time-of-flight 3D sensing tech.

Concerning support for 5G, Kuo suggests that iPhone models with mmWave ought to be available in five markets, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom, whilst Apple may not even enable 5G capability for those countries who don’t offer 5G services.

In addition to the projections for the new iPhones in 2020, the report also provides forecasts for the new iPhones in 2021. It says that Apple will release the SE2 Plus iPhone in the first half of 2021, and is expected to have a screen size of 5.5 or 6.1 inches, a full-screen design, and a smaller notch area because it does not support the Face ID, instead, it will have Touch ID, which will be embedded on the power button.

Kuo predicts that in the second half of 2021, Apple may cancel the Lightning port in the highest-end models to provide a more comprehensive wireless experience. “Apple will create more differentiation between the highest-end and high- end models. It will benefit the shipment of the highest-end model and ‌iPhone‌ ASP. Among new 2H21 ‌iPhone‌ models, we expect that the highest-end model would cancel the [Lightning] port and provide the completely wireless experience,” the analyst says.
