The popular Orangetheory fitness club on Thursday announced that a curious form of Apple Watch integration with its gym equipment is coming in the first quarter of 2020, cancelling the need to use one of the company’s separate armbands or dedicated heart rate monitors.

The fitness club will achieve that via its new OTbeat Link accessory that will be released publicly sometime during the first quarter of 2020. Paired with a new Orangetheory app for Apple Watch, the accessory will give members the ability to synchronize their Apple Watch directly with the company’s in-studio heart rate monitoring system.

The small device is worn on your Apple Watch band.

“With workout tracking, Apple Pay and a new membership program, we are thrilled Orangetheory Fitness is integrating Apple Watch into a comprehensive experience for their customers,” said Jay Blahnik, Senior Director of Fitness for Health Technologies at Apple.

That kind of integration will permit members to view metrics in real time, in class, with their watch, plus see their Orangetheory Fitness workouts afterward in the Activity app. For those wondering,  your Orangetheory Fitness workouts will contribute to closing your Activity rings.

Aside from all-new Apple Watch connectivity, Orangetheory also unveiled a membership program and apps for coaches and sales associates to further enhance member experience.

The new custom-designed OTbeat Link accessory will be priced at $129 on and elsewhere when it arrives sometime in the first quarter of 2020. The tiny device will be included in a new Premier+ tier for members so they won’t need to purchase it separately.
